Regional artist Adaline Lewis Tucker will be the next featured subject for the Rend Lake College Cultural Calendar of Events virtual meet and greet on Friday at noon.
Tucker will be conducting an alginate casting demonstration during the virtual event, which will be held over Zoom. Dental alginate is used to make temporary molds of body parts or other objects with organic material surfaces. With these molds, artists can cast a replica of an object in plaster. In this demonstration, Tucker will show how easy, accessible and versatile this product is and how she applies it in her work.
This semester, the RLC Cultural Arts Calendar of Events will celebrate several RLC graduates and other regional artists with a variety of diverse perspectives. There will be several demonstrations with interactive engagement.
About the artist:
Adaline Lewis Tucker is an artist living in Southern Illinois primarily making multimedia sculpture. Taking cues from speculative fiction, Tucker creates ornamental props that reference both the domestic and the unreal. Much of the work and photography is inspired by a deep love of fantasy and material exploration. After graduating from the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, she completed a two-year post-baccalaureate program with the SIUC Ceramics department working under Pattie Chalmers. For the past six years, Tucker has also been an organizer in the Carbondale music community, planning and facilitating dozens of DIY concerts and art shows. Emphasizing the importance of both institutional and grassroots art environments has been a big motivation in Tucker’s practice.
