United Way of South Central Illinois Accepting Application for Emergency Food and Shelter Program Funds in Jefferson and Marion Counties

United Way of South Central Illinois has been appointed administrator of $ 38,438 for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Federal Emergency Management Agency.

$19,890 is available to Jefferson County and $18,548 to Marion County to private voluntary nonprofits, faith-based or local units of government.  With a board comprised of local community leaders, United Way of South Central Illinois will determine funding allocation through a competitive application process.  

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies that are chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary nonprofits, faith-based or local units of government; be eligible to receive federal funds; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; and if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations chosen to receive funds for mass shelter, mass feeding, other food, temporary lodging, rent/mortgage assistance and utility assistance must meet the following criteria:

  1. have non-profit status
  2. maintain an accounting system
  3. practice non-discrimination
  4. demonstrate the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
  5. have a voluntary board (if the agency is a private voluntary organization)

 

To apply for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds, please contact the office for an application. Applications must be RECEIVED by January 15, 2020 at 5:00 pm.  Applications received after this deadline date will not be considered for funding.
