The Village of Norris City held its regular monthly meeting last night at the Lions Club Building.
The board approved a TIF Agreement for the Lions Club Building at 100 East Main Street for repairs on the roof, at a cost of $25,000. Work will begin shortly.
They decided to table work on the handicapped curbing at the Senior Citizens Center to look into it more. The curb will have to be removed and then replaced and it takes a long time to do the work, with the work having to be done by the state. And it would need to be completed before highway resurfacing begins in April.
The board will look into putting new lights up at Beattie Park as they will need to do re-wiring.
The Welcome to Norris City sign for the other end of town will be put up soon and landscaping will need to be done.
Ethan Jones was sworn in as the new patrol officer after graduating from the police academy on October 1st. His salary was increased effective now and he will wear badge number 8577.
The board agreed to extend the lease agreement on the old Doctor’s Clinic with Shalene Walker for another year until October 31st 2021.
Liquor license renewals with Doug’s Food Mart and Indian Creek Township Legion Hall 109 were approved.
Trick or Treating will be held on October 31st from 5 to 7 PM. Residents should turn on their porch lights if they are going to hand out treats.
Accepted was a bid of $8,500 from Kyle Scott to repair the roof on the old Wakeford property that is owned by the village.
The village will proceed with getting quotes for the carpeting and finishing work on the back room of the Country Companies Office.
The board agreed to pay the full three year sponsorship in the White County CEO Program at $1,000 each for the years of 2019, 2020 and 2021, for a total of $3,000.
They also agreed to donate $250 for the NCOE yearbook ad, the same amount as last year.
The village signed a three year contract with Homefield Energy for the Electric Municipal Aggregate. A lower rate of .043391 cents will begin in September with match rate language.
The board accepted removing $434.37 from the books on utility bills from residents that are no longer living at their addresses.
The village of Norris City wastewater facility was one of just six facilities nominated for “Best Operated Wastewater Treatment Works” in the Group B category. The Award will be presented at the annual AWPCO Conference April 19-21 of 2021. Inspectors visited the facility on September 25th.
The 2002 F250 Super Duty truck without a bed and a front mount snowplow with 96,000 miles on it will be offered as surplus equipment to the village of Odin if they decide to purchase it at price of $2,000.
The village will look into replacement of a part-time office worker.
Election petitions will be available from the City Clerk as the positions of Mayor, three trustees and Clerk will be open. They can be turned in from December 14-21.
Board member Judy Daubs was appointed Mayor Pro-tem from November 2nd through the 7th.
In the police report for September, there were eight reports written, two arrests made and nine citations issued, as well as seven 9-1-1 calls. Newly sworn-in officer Jones will begin training and working this week.
The next meeting of the village board will be on Monday, November 2nd at 7 PM, once again at the Lions Club Building.
