White County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Several Thefts and Break-Ins Over the Labor Day Weekend

Brittany J. Churchwell of Carmi reported to the White County Sheriff’s Office, Sunday afternoon, someone had stolen the back plate off of her 1998 Jeep sometime Saturday night. The plates were entered into LEADS as missing or stolen plates.

Jesse M. Williams of Evansville reported to the White County Sheriff’s Office Saturday morning, someone had broken into one of the buildings at the old radar base in Carmi, sometime between August 23rd and September 1st, and removed several items Williams had stored in the building. Missing was a black, white, and red Bell motorcycle helmet worth $400, an Indiana motorcycle registration plate, and an unknown number of documents from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Social Security Administration. Officers advised Williams to contact his bank and advise them of the situation so that he could take steps to prevent access to his account. An incident report was filed at the White County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana registration plate was entered as stolen and reported to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Dave Hazlett of New Haven contacted the White County Sheriff’s Office Sunday afternoon to report someone had broken into his shed and stole some items including fishing ples and a numerous amount of deer antlers.

The White County Sheriff’s Office received a report Sunday night, from Donald R. Coston of Carmi, someone had broken one of the back windows and entered his building. He could not tell if anything was taken but did notice some things had been moved around. The break-in occurred sometime between last week and Sunday. Coston mows the property every week and checks the building, which he uses for storage.
