Carmi-White County School Board Met Monday Night

The Carmi-White County School Board met last night at the CWC Junior/Senior High School Cafeteria.

District Technology Coordinator Robin Huggins discussed the district technology and how they are preparing for the possibility of remote learning for next year.  She said more than 350 Chromebooks have been ordered for K-12 students, including Touch Chromebooks for the kindergarteners.  Also several touch-screen TV’s were ordered and the district already has been using Google Classroom for Kindergarten students.

Transportation Secretary Bart King added that they have purchased wi-fi for ten school buses for about $1,000 each.

Superintendent Brad Lee said in his report that the budget just approved by the state legislature for fiscal year 2021 will pretty much maintain funding for the district similar to last year.

Also, they are still waiting for guidance from the State Board of Education concerning the start of the next school year.  They said a transition plan will be announced sometime next week and remote learning recommendations soon thereafter.  The district’s administrative team has been working on several options and will continue to prepare for them.  The current start dates are August 13th for staff and August 17th for students.

And a three year agreement with Kemper CPA Group in Olney has been completed, which will continue the association with them.   There will be a one year extension with a $1,250 increase for this year’s audit.
