White County Dispatch received a report early Friday morning around 1:59 a.m. that a vehicle had wrecked into the trees on the west side of IL Highway 45.
Upon arrival, officers and first responders noticed a female, identified as Morgan L. Williams, 30, of West Frankfort laying on the ground outside the vehicle and a male, identified as Shiveze D. Coleman, 24, of Ridgway, sitting beside her.
Officers examined the inside of the vehicle and noticed a strong smell of alcohol.
Williams was transported by ambulance to Ferrell Hospital for her injuries. Coleman at first stated he did not need to be transported, but later stated that he did want to go to the hospital to be checked out.
Before being transported, Coleman was read the Warning to Motorists in the back of the ambulance.
Coleman refused to consent to a blood draw and urine test and would not allow any hospital staff to do any tests because he did not trust anyone there. He refused to sign any hospital forms for release and was therefore released from hospital care against medical advice.
Coleman was arrested for Obstruction of Justice for lying to officers about not driving the vehicle that resulted in an accident with injuries. He was placed in handcuffs and taken to the White County Jail.
Coleman was cited for Driving Under the Influence, Disobeying A Traffic Control Device, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid and Accident.
The vehicle was towed from the scene by Cherry Street Towing.
