SIC: Remote Learning to Continue Over Summer; Commencement Ceremony Postponed

Southeastern Illinois College announced Wednesday it will convert its 2020 summer session to remote learning.

“Southeastern takes the safety and security of our students and staff seriously just as we do their educational experience,” said President Dr. Jonah Rice.  “Our decision to transition remotely for this summer term was based on calculated, careful analysis including official guidance from state officials regarding lab courses.”

Welding courses will be modified to be online for the first of the term and will have face-to-face application late in the term, unless health and safety dictate further modification.  Other lab courses will be all online.

Some workforce education courses will be canceled as well and handled on a case-by-case basis. Students with summer internships are asked to check with the respective academic dean’s office for that information.

Students should contact their instructors for specific course details.  Academic advisors are also available to answer questions at [email protected] or (618) 252-5400 ext. 4130.

“SIC looks forward to an exciting summer session as we’ve been an online leader for decades,” added Rice. “If you are a student at home this summer debating college or looking for something to keep you busy, stay ahead on your academic progress by taking courses at SIC.”

As for graduation, Southeastern understands the importance of this moment for those students who have worked so hard at their goals.  The college will postpone graduation until further notice pending health and safety regulations.  An announcement will be made at a later date regarding commencement ceremony details.  The nurse pinning ceremony has been canceled.

Campus offices will open when the governor allows a return to campus.
