Carmi City Council Met Via Conference Call Tuesday

At the 25 minute Carmi City Council meeting, which was conducted by conference call due to the coronavirus outbreak, the members approved the reappointment of Nancy J Winter as Trustee on the Police Pension Fund Board for a two year term effective May First of this year until April 30th 2022.  They also approved a resolution renewing the employee’s safety incentive program for April First of this year until March 31st 2021.

And after a few minutes of discussion, council accepted the lowest bid for a tractor for the City of Carmi Parks Department from Case IH in Mcleansboro at a cost of $64,759.97.  Mayor Jeff Pollard said he would contact them and discuss what payment options are available.

Pollard said he accepted an offer by Premier Soft Wash to donate their time and their chemicals and clean up all of the park’s playground equipment for the children to use when things get somewhat back to normal.  Pollard also asked everyone to please fill out the census forms and return them, because it determines how much money the city gets based on income and what kind of grants they can receive.

Alderman Steve Winkleman asked the Mayor about the situation concerning Burrell’s Woods…

“The campground is actually closed down for right now. As far as Burrell’s Woods allowing them to go through and walk and do that, it’s open. All the playground equipment at Burrell’s Woods, Bradshaw, and Eckerle, there’s a notice out there that says that you’re not technically supposed to be on it. It comes down to the parents controlling what they’re allowing their kids to do basically. There are four campers that are left at Burrell’s Woods right now. The reasons they are there, they were travelling through. Some of them were like a month stay or two month stay. With the Governor’s statement that we can’t evict anybody, we can’t make them leave. We just can’t let anyone else come in. The shower houses are closed. The bathrooms are closed. As far as that goes, we are complying in every area that we can.”

There was no closed session held.

The council adjourned at 5:55 PM.  The next Carmi Council meeting is scheduled to be on Tuesday, April 28th at 5:30 PM.
