SIC Encourages Sense of Community via Social Media During COVID-19 Crisis

HARRISBURG, Ill. (March 23, 2020) — Southeastern Illinois College has always prided itself on a sense of “home”. In light of the current COVID-19 crisis and studies being moved to an online format for the remainder of the semester, SIC is doing its best to continue that sense of community by engaging students, staff and faculty through various channels of social media. The latest activity is a competition through TikTok.

Students and employees are encouraged to create a TikTok video showing what they are doing to keep busy during this unprecedented time. Users will submit an entry by using the hashtag #SICQuarantine and tagging SIC’s TikTok page, @SICollege.

Videos can be anything, so long as users wear their SIC attire and it depicts what users are doing from home while practicing social distancing. From dances to songs or lip-syncing, creativity is key. All videos will be judged and the top three will win $50 gas or grocery gift cards.

This contest will run through April 30. Winners will be contacted through TikTok on or by May 8.

Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to visit Southeastern’s social media channels during this time, for more information as it comes in, and to see what other fun things may be in store. Southeastern social media handles are; facebook.com/southeasternillinoiscollege, Instagram: @southeasternillinoiscollege, TikTok: @SICollege, Twitter: SIC_EDU and youtube.com/southeasternillinois.
