The Southern Illinoisan newspaper is reporting at this hour that a Franklin County resident is the latest southern Illinoisan to have tested positive for Covid-19. The Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department has confirmed the woman is recovering on her own at home. In her 50’s, she is thought to have contracted the coronavirus through community spread, according to a release from the Franklin-Williamson Health Department. Additional specific details about the individual won’t be released due to privacy concerns.
At this point, officials are tracking down others the individual may have come in contact or been in close proximity to before learning she was positive. It’s possible that other individuals may not be symptomatic, but will need to still be quarantined if deemed to have had sufficient explosure. A spokesperson for the health department said the region could anticipate additional cases in the coming days and weeks.
As of now, the closest cases to our immediate area are Vanderburgh County in Indiana, Henderson County in Kentucky, plus there are cases in Franklin, Williamson, Jackson, Washington, Clinton, and St. Clair Counties in Illinois.
