Carmi Rotary Club Met Thursday; Nashville Tornado Video and Slide Show the Program for the Day

Thursday, March 5, 2020

The Thursday meeting of the Carmi Rotary Club featured a quick video and slide show of the recent, devastating tornadoes that ripped through the Nashville, Tennessee area. Pastor Randy Douglass has two daughters living in the area with their families, and he was able to show some first-hand photos of the aftermath.

Pictures from the area show homes totally destroyed, a school where one of his daughters used to teach almost completely wiped out, and other neighborhoods which will have to be rebuilt completely after the storm passed through.

In club business, the Rotarians spent time discussing the final planning for the upcoming Rotary Trivia night, which will be held on Saturday, March 7th at the American Legion on Oak Street in Carmi.

Anyone wishing to enter a team in this fun-filled event can simply show up the night of the contest. The cost for a four-person team is forty dollars.

At the day’s meeting, a motion was made, seconded and approved to donate one hundred dollars to “Rest in Heavenly Peace”, the organization that made a presentation at last week’s Rotary meeting.

One important note: Next week’s Rotary meeting will be held at Carmi Wholesale Distributors on Lexington Ave. in Carmi instead of the First United Methodist Church.

For the second week in a row, Cindy Conley won the 50/50 raffle but unlike last week, Cindy did manage to claim the day’s cash jackpot. Patty Mills was named the day’s phantom.

The Carmi Rotary club meets every Thursday at noon at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Carmi. Anyone wishing to learn more about this civic organization is welcome to attend a meeting or speak with any Carmi Rotarian.
