A 60 year old Carmi man, Tommy J. Gilpin, is free on $300 bond, following his arrest Thursday afternoon by Carmi Police. CPD responded to a traffic accident around 4:02 PM Thursday at West Main Street near Pizza Hut. Gilpin rear-ended Samuel Paul Ellison, as they were both traveling East on West Main Street. During the investigation of the accident, it was determined that Gilpin was suspected to be under the influence of drugs or a combination of drugs. He was arrested on a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Combination of Drugs. He was also ticketed for Failing to Reduce Speed to avoid an accident.
