NCOE School Board December meeting report

The NCOE Board of Education met for their final 2015 meeting Wednesday evening. It was a short agenda and completed in one hour.

 

During the Principal reports, activities at each of the schools were highlighted.  NCO has completed their “Help Your Neighbor” project by collecting over 1500 items for the Ministerial Alliance community food baskets.  The Junior High basketball team will hold 8th grade recognition night this evening.

 

The High School Student Council held a Red & White Dance after the first home basketball game.  Always a popular treat, Mrs. Henson and FCCLA baked 3233 loaves of bread last week.  Principal Todd Haley noted that semester exams will be given Monday and Tuesday, December 21 and 22, with 2 p.m. dismissal on Tuesday.

 

Booth has held a Book Fair using profits to purchase books for the library.  The Jingle Bell Shop netted $500 for end of the year field trips.  Booth Student Council had 50 students and parents attend a cookie decorating workshop on Dec. 12.

 

PARCC scores were discussed.  District-wide the scores in Language Arts were at or above state levels but math scores were below.  Half day workshops on January 15th will be used to realign math curriculum to meet state standards for next year.

 

The administrators praised Mr. Austin and the music department students for their hard work that was showcased at the December 11 Christmas concert.

 

The Board heard from Ben Hanewinkel from Central States Bus Company about the possible lease of 5 busses for the district to update the current fleet.  The Board voted to lease five new busses and trade in three district-owned busses.

 

The Board approved a six week FMLA maternity leave request from Ashley Westfall.  Also, a first reading of updated Board policies was held.  And bids will be taken for gas and diesel supplies to be accepted at the January 20, 2016 meeting.
