Newburg, IN man arrested by MCPD for home improvement scam

An investigation into a home improvement scam resulted in an arrest of a Warrick County, Indiana man.  William M. Hoag of Newburg is accused of collecting $8,000 from a Mt. Carmel couple to finish a front porch.  At the time of the contract Hoag was operating his business under the name of The Home Improvement Specialist out of Evansville, Indiana.  Hoag was supposed to have started the project in May of 2015 but never arrived on the job site.  A warrant for Hoag was issued for his arrest.  The Warrick County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hoag on December 14th.  Hoag is charged with a Theft a class 3 felony.  Hoag is being held in the Warrick County Jail on a $2,500 cash bond.  Hoag is awaiting extradition to Illinois.

Mt. Carmel Police arrested 32 year old Charles R. Leek of Mt. Carmel.  The arresting officer observed Leek operating a motor vehicle in the 500 block of Ash Street and knew Leek was driving while suspended.  The arresting officer initiated a vehicle stop in the area of Willow Swamp Road and placed Leek under arrest.  Leek was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with driving while suspended.  Leek was held pending the posting of bond.

Mt. Carmel Police arrested 29 year old Amanda R. Shive of Louisville, Kentucky.  Shive was stopped by Mt. Carmel Police for a traffic violation in the area of 3rd and Cherry Street.  During the traffic stop it was discovered she was operating on a suspended driver’s license.  Shive was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged with driving while suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, expired registration and failure to yield/stop at an intersection.  Shive was taken to the Wabash County Jail and held pending the posting of bond.
