1942-2024

Thomas E. Mitchell Jr., 82, of Crossville, formerly of Noble passed away on Sunday May 19, 2024 at his home.

Tom was born May 10, 1942 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Thomas E. and Ola (Fulk) Mitchell. He married Glenda (Carter) on October 26, 1963 in Crossville, Illinois, and she survives.

Tom was a life-long carpenter and started his career after graduating from West Richland High School in 1960 and began working for his brother, Charles. He later joined the Carpenters Union in 1964. Tom was a strong man with a servant's heart and enjoyed helping others. He also took pleasure in hunting and working on the farm. Tom was an example to everyone of how to live a life. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, a family man, and a good friend.

 

Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glenda of Crossville, IL; son, Thomas (Katie) Mitchell III of Greenville, SC; daughter, Cynthia (Todd) Hagen of Teutopolis, IL; son, Alfred Scott (Donna) Mitchell of Olney; daughter, Annetta (Rick) Sarensen of Vergennes, IL; grandchildren, Daniel Marlatt, Samantha Lancaster, Katelyn Mitchell, Thomas Mitchell IV, Rebecca Marlatt, Dakota Humphries, Edmond Hagen, Dawn Hagen, Deana Whitaker, Justin Whitaker, Bradley Mitchell, Jonathan Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell, Jordan Sarensen, Jennifer Sarensen, Joshua Sarensen, Justin Sarensen, Jessica Sarensen, Jocelyn Sarensen, 19 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Ruth Elaine O’Brien, Kay Miller, and Kathleen Hagen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Charles Mitchell, Lawrence Mitchell, Lois Hagen, Beulah Brown, and Maxine Fryburger.

A funeral service will be held for Tom at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning two hours before service time at the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service at Hanna Cemetery in rural Noble.
