Stephen R. Garrett, 65, of Carmi, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on June 28, 1958, in Carmi, Illinois, the son of Carl E. and Mary Eloise (Savage) Garrett. Steve married Karlene Carpenter on September 20, 1980, and she survives. He graduated from Carmi High School in 1976, and went on to complete his Bachelor's Degree at Murray State University. He retired in 2020, as Branch Manager of Hydrochem in Crossville. He worked 42 years in the chemical industrial cleaning industry, and worked in consulting after retirement. He was a member of First Christian Church in Carmi since 1972. Steve served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons, Chairman of the Finance Committee, a Trustee as well as in the Blessings Ministry and the Love in Action Ministry. Steve was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid golfer and was also a member of the Carmi Country Club. Steve was a Chicago Cubs baseball fan and cheered on the University of Kentucky in basketball.     In addition to his wife, Karlene Garrett of Carmi, IL, Steve is survived by his son Adam (Laura) Garrett of Glen Carbon, IL; a grandson, Lincoln Garrett; two siblings, Donald (Dorothy) Garrett of Carmi, IL. and Carol (Joe) Skaggs of Norris City, IL; several nieces and nephews; and lifetime friend, Connie Simmons. He is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Dain Garrett. The Garrett family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Reimers at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Stephens, at Oncology Hematology and Associates, in Newburgh, Indiana, Hospice of Southern Illinois, Linda White Hospice House, and Andy Gee and the staff at Plum Street Pharmacy.     Funeral services for Steve Garrett will be held at 12:00 p.m on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at First Christian Church in Carmi, with burial at White County Memorial Garden in Carmi. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at First Christian Church in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Christian Church or to Brownsville School Special Olympics, and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.
