Obituaries

 Jeanette Francis Heads, 55, of Carmi, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. She was born on February 6, 1969, in San Diego, California, the daughter of George Wesley Knowlton, Sr. and Maryetta Taylor.

Matthew James Wright, 60, of Carmi, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. He was born on October 30, 1963, in San Diego, California.

Cynthia Jean Siegert, age 62, passed away peacefully in her home in The Villages of Florida on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024. Cindy was born on May 20th, 1962 to Chester Vernon Siegert Jr. and Mary Jean (Broster) Siegert.

   Richard Lee Tullis, 84, of Springerton, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024. He was born on December 29, 1939, in Springerton, Illinois, the son of Willis and Ruby (McIntosh) Tullis.

 Karen Hortin, 73, of Carmi, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. She was born on March 30, 1951, in Heralds Prairie Township, Illinois. She was the daughter of Herbert Leon and Wanda Laura (Mills) Hale. Karen married Roger Hortin on June 23, 1990, and he survives. She was a retired Legal Secretary, working for the White County States Attorney Office in Carmi for 19 years. Karen loved spending time in the Smoky Mountains and was a wonderful cook. She kept the Hortin household well organized. Karen was a caring person and ministered to so many through card ministry. She was a dedicated caregiver down through the years to her family and was extremely kind hearted. If there was a need, she was there to respond and help.

Robert “Bob” Joseph Klute, 66, of Fowlerville, MI and formerly of Fairfield, IL passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at his home after a 26-year battle with colon cancer.  He was born on July 27, 1958 to Robert Lee Klute & Joann Juanita (Smith) Klute. 

Jerry Waylon McGehee, 88, of Enfield, IL, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 at McLeansboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in McLeansboro.  He was born April 17, 1936 in Springerton, IL to Clyde and Lela McGehee.

William A. Lydick, 87, of Fairfield, Illinois, died Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born March 1, 1937, in Oklahoma, the son of Everett and Helen Lydick.

John E. Hayden, 69, of Longview, TX passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, TX.  He was born in Carmi, IL on December 1, 1954 the son of Bobby L. and Jenell E. (Harvey) Hayden.  John married Darlene Herrin and she preceded him in death on October 10, 1993  He had worked in construction and faithfully served his country in the United States Navy and later in the Naval Reserves.

Fredrich Douglas Schmittler of Malden, Missouri, 82, formerly of Grayville, Illinois went home to Jesus peacefully with his loved ones by his side on September 8, 2024, in Fincastle, Virginia. He was born on May 6, 1942, in Grayville, Illinois, to Jerald Clifton (J.C.) Schmittler and Carolyn Hope (Crome) Schmittler.
