William Thomas Haywood, Jr, a veteran of the Vietnam War and longtime resident of Grayville, IL, passed away on January 24, 2024. Tom, as he was known to many in the area, was born on April 27, 1945 to Tom and Margaret (Whitehead) Haywood and graduated from Grayville High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1963. In the Air Force, he served as a jet engine mechanic until 1967. During his Air Force career, he received several awards and citations and was nominated for Airmen of the Year in 1966.

He was born on November 19, 1933, in Herald, Illinois, the son of Louis Ezra and Cleatus Rose (O'Neal) Poshard. Ed married Phyllis Jean Fishback on July 21, 1959, and she survives. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Ed worked as an insurance agent for 42 years at State Farm Insurance in Carmi. He attended Ditney Ridge Baptist Church. Ed enjoyed camping, riding his bicycle and traveling. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
