Mary Louise Hammell
1924-2024

Mary Louise Hammell, 99, of Crossville, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.  She was born December 7, 1924, in Crossville, the daughter of Fred and Clara (Renshaw) McKnight.  She married David Eugene “Gene” Hammell on March 27, 1943, and he preceded her in death on September 11, 2007.

Mary was a member of the Crossville United Methodist Church in Crossville, Illinois. She enjoyed sewing, cooking (especially for her grandchildren), and she was always there to provide love, hugs, and kisses.

Survivors include daughter Mary Jean (Glendall) Ellis of Enfield, Illinois; daughter-in-law Jane Hammell of Calvin, Illinois; sister Ruby Marks of West Salem, Illinois;

Grandchildren Kevin (Pam) Hammell, Brent (Carrie) Hammell, Jeff (Norah) Degenhardt, Tassy (Charles) Martin, Crystal (Joseph) Taylor, Richard (Susan) Mode, Kay (Larry Joe) Ridenour, and Nancy Gowdy; numerous great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and special nurse Holly Winebarger.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son David Hammell; and brother William McKnight.

Visitation and funeral are Friday, March 8, 2024, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Crossville, Illinois.  Visitation is at 10 am and funeral is at 12 noon. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville, Illinois.
