Marie Mitchell, 85, of Enfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Wednesday morning, January 10, 2024. She was born to Louis and Rose (Zilch) Kohl in Ridgway, Illinois, on August 1, 1938. Marie married Bernard Mitchell on August 28, 1956, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway, having celebrated 67 years of marriage last August. She was a devoted farm wife, loving mother and proud grandma and great-grandma. Marie was a selfless and compassionate woman, who loved to serve her family, her St. Patrick's Church family and the Enfield and McLeansboro communities.     Marie is survived by her husband, Bernard Mitchell; her three sons, Vince (Sharon) Mitchell, Tom (Diane) Mitchell, and Kevin (Kristy) Mitchell; her three daughters, Donna (Roger) Apple, Mary Lee (Jeff) Stephens, and Paula (Brad) Blades; 13 grandchildren, Bethany Sutton, Megan Swartz, Brody Mitchell, Aaron and Austin Apple, Whitney Hopfinger, Jayla Livingston, Heather Johnson, Kohl and Keilyn Mitchell, Emily Braden, Alison and Breanna Blades; 18 great-grandchildren, Addy, Abe, Cora, Leo, Grayson, Lilly, Harrison, Tate, Holland, Emmery, Royce, Oaklyn, Creed, Kai, Lemma, Quinn, Jayde, Lane and baby Apple on the way in February; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Helen (Marvin) French, Bob (Retha) Kohl, Louis Kohl, Jr. and Rita Kohl; parents-in-law, Leo and Cora Mitchell; and brothers and sisters-in-laws, Wilford (Ruth) Mitchell, John (Agnes) Mitchell, Gene (Virginia) Mitchell, Tom (Ann) Hannigan, Delbert (Mary Jo) York, Don (Helena) Luster, Gertie Mitchell and Paul Mitchell.    A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Enfield, with burial in the church cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 3:45 p.m. and visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Enfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Marie's memory to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church Building Fund or to Cardinal Glennon Hospital, and will be accepted at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield, who is in charge of arrangements.
