Lydia “Kay” (Leach) Gholson
1940-2023

Lydia “Kay” (Leach) Gholson, cherished wife, beloved mom, grandma and great-grandma left this life for her eternal home in Heaven on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.Kay was born on March 25,1940 to Randal and Mildred (Center) Leach in West Frankfort, Illinois. She was a “daddy’s girl,” her mother’s best friend and the typical “bratty” little sister to big brother Jim. She graduated from Frankfort Community High School in 1958 and moved to Evansville, Indiana to attend Lockyear Business College. At Lockyear’s Kay met the love of her life, Jerry Gholson. They married on November 28,1959 and would have celebrated their 64th Anniversary next month. Kay was a stay-at-home mom to their daughters Kelly, Cindy and Amy, but began a job in telephone sales at Sears when Amy started school. Kay would go on to work at Wirth’s Flowers and MidwestEquipment, where she retired after 28 years. Kay was very active at First Christian Church in Evansville, serving on numerous committees, leading Children’s Church, teaching in VBS, and being Treasurer of her Sunday School class, the Homebuilders. She also volunteered at her daughters’ school activities, scouting events and church youth groups. Upon retirement, Kay became the sitter/driver/cheerleader to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them after school, taking them to appointments and attending their sports practices and games. She loved and adored her family, and they loved and adored her.Those left to miss her include her loving husband, Jerry Gholson of Evansville, IN; daughters, Kelly Seibert of Evansville, IN, Cindy Black-Boughton (Dan) of Niles, MI and Amy Ferguson of Evansville, IN; sisters-in-law, Carol Leach of Tulsa, OK, Elizabeth Neal of Marion, IL and Pat Gholson of Carmi, IL; grandchildren, Donald Breivogel III, Megan Adams (Zach), Emily Seibert, Brittanie Black, Logan Black, Mark Boughton (Christina), Abigail Kowalski (Colin), Alaina Dukart (Ashton), Aletheia Boughton, Hunter Ferguson and Holden Ferguson (Norah); great grandchildren, Jace Boerner, Everleigh and Weston Adams, Olivia-Kate and Finn Boughton, Orin and Rayla Kowalski, Delilah, Lilianna and Ariella Dukart, and many nieces and nephews.Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Randal and Mildred Leach; brother, Dr. James Leach; son-in-law, Pastor Lowell Black; brothers-in-law, John, Joe, Charles, Dick and Jim Gholson; and sisters-in-law, Sylvia Drosdahl, Elsie Auxier and Annette Webb.A celebration of Kay's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at First Christian Church, 2845 Beaumont Dr., Evansville, IN 47725 with Pastors Jerry Clark and Matthew Silen officiating.Friends may visit from 10:00 am until service time on Saturday at the church.Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund.The family would like to thank the ICU nursing staff of Unit 4800 at Deaconess Midtown, especially Aaron and Andy, and the staff at Linda E.
