Leon Hale
1932-2024

Leon Hale, 92, of Carmi, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 25, 1932, in Heralds Prairie Township, Illinois, the son of William Henry and Mary Bernice Hale. Leon married  Wanda Laura Mills on February 5, 1950, and she preceded him in death. He later married Margaret Lucille Smith on December, 20, 1997, and she also preceded him in death. He was a retired farmer, timber contractor, Herald Prairie Township Road Commissioner, and foreman for the White County Highway Department and later was  the acting superintendent for a year. Leon was a member of Stewart Street Baptist Church in Carmi. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Leon was very active in his church life and was a witness for the Lord.

Leon is survived by his children, Karen (Roger) Hortin, Sheila (Joe) Peacock, Colleen (Bruce) Masser, Ron (Becky) Hale, and Beth (Roger) Browning; grandchildren, Matthew (Marla) Peacock, Jennifer (David) Johnson, Dustin (Kara) Hale, Cheryl (Wes) Clemens and Tyler (Kali) Browning; a daughter-in-law, Pam Hale; great-grandchildren, Olivia Rose Peacock, Gracelyn Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Andrew Gillihan, Cassie (Derek) Zimmer, Jaxon Browning, Jenna Beth Browning, Josie Browning and Devin Hale; two step-children, Mickey (Mavis) Smith and Robin (Cindy) Smith; step-grandchildren, Jeremy (Theresa) Smith, Tyler Smith and Lindsay (Keagen) Mouradian; step great-grandchildren, Regan Smith, Owen Smith and Mila Mouradian; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Phelps; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife, Wanda Laura Hale, and his second wife, Margaret Hale, Leon is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stanley Keith Hale; a sister, Gladys Hale; a brother, Henry Hale; and a daughter-in-law, Becky Turner Hale.

Funeral services for Leon Hale will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with burial at Union Ridge Cemetery in New Haven, Illinois. Family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
