Kathryn Mitchell, 89, of McLeansboro, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, September 15, 2024 at McLeansboro Healthcare and Rehab with her daughter by her side.  She was born February 4, 1935 in Carmi, IL to Lee and Tamsey Tuggle.  On May 14, 1950, she married Ted Mitchell who preceded her in death in 2020.

She retired from Walmart where she worked as a department manager and fitting room assistant over 30 years starting in Mississippi and ending up in Harrisburg, IL.  She was a member of Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church in McLeansboro.  Kathyrn enjoyed shopping, watching classic television shows like “I Love Lucy”, getting her hair done every week, and talking on the phone with her kids when they lived away from her.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.

Kathryn is survived by her son Bill (Kathy) Mitchell of Poplar Bluff, MO, her daughter Beverly (Mike) Husman of Sykesville, MD, her daughter Vickie (John) Lindstrom of McLeansboro, nine grandchildren: Jill (Bryce) Callihan, Crystal (Dennis) Ryan, Lois (Jerrod) Vaupel, Stacy (Matt) Thompson, Stephanie (Tim) Weinz, Lori (Logan) Clendenin, Jessica Husman, Daniel Lindstrom, Kathryn Lindstrom, her nieces Shirley Ingram and Emma Grace Conner, and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted Mitchell, and seven brothers: Vilo Tuggle, Monroe Tuggle, Joseph Tuggle, Chalon Tuggle, George Tuggle, Chuck Tuggle, and Nick Tuggle.

Funeral services for Kathryn Mitchell will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Ten Mile Baptist Church of McLeansboro with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.  Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Ten Mile Cemetery near McLeansboro.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Glaucoma Foundation and will be accepted during the service at the church or at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
