Gary Michael Conrady
1950 - 2024

Gary Michael Conrady, 73, of McLeansboro, IL passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Gary was born on November 22, 1950 in Mansfield, Ohio.  On September 13, 2003 he married Stella (Starling) Conrady, who survives.

Gary worked as a truck driver, and had also worked for a satellite tv & internet service.  He was a U.S. Army and U.S. Navy Veteran, who served overseas in Germany.  He was a member of the Motorcycle Riders Memorial of Illinois, ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education), the VFW of Benton, IL and the American Legion of Benton, IL.  He was also a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benton, IL.

Gary loved riding motorcycles.  He made many cross-country motorcycle trips, and attended many poker runs.  He was known for wearing funny outfits to the poker runs, and usually won the award for “best not dressed”.  He also loved traveling to Washington State, where he would pan for gold on his friend’s land.  Gary was known for being a kind-hearted man with a wonderful laugh, and he was generous to a fault.  He enjoyed life, and he will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

Gary is survived by his wife Stella Conrady of McLeansboro, a sister Julie (Jim) Fleeman of Macedonia, IL; 4 brothers: John (Lori) Greenawald of Benton, IL; Joe Greenawald of Kentucky, Jim Greenawald of Florida, and Jody (Tammy) Greenawald of McLeansboro; an aunt Anita (Dave) Michael of Tacoma, WA; cousins Art Conrady and Leah Conrady, and several nieces nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother Shirley Ann Conrady.

Per Gary’s wishes, his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gholson Funeral Home to assist with final expenses, and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
