1926 - 2024
Elizabeth “Liz” Barbre went to her heavenly home on January 6, 2024. She was born on January 30, 1926 in Enfield, Illinois to Leonard Daniel Apple and Flora Elsie Espy. She married Paul Kenneth Barbre on November 20,1943 and he preceded her in death on November 19, 1999.
Liz is survived by sons Mike (Rosina) Barbre and Ron (Brenda) Barbre of Carmi; grandchildren Kayci (Todd) Large, Tracy (Todd) Maricle, Ronnie Keith Barbre, and Rae Lynn (Travis) Doerner all of Carmi; great grandchildren Akilah Large, Kipton Large, Tanner (Regan) Maricle, Treyson (Ashley Paul) Maricle and Baylor Doerner; and two great-great grandchildren, Landry and Logsdon Miracle. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Carlton, Lola, Jean, Max and Aleta; husband, P.K.; sons Bobby Gene Barbre and Len Barbre and a grandson Kelly Gene Barbre. Liz and P.K. raised four sons in Centerville, IL where Liz often helped her husband on the farm. She was employed at the telephone office in Carmi, was a Gold Star Mother, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Liz and P.K. were fortunate to spend many years living in Ft. Myers, Florida during the winter months where she enjoyed having morning coffee at Bronco Bill’s, playing bingo, and when they visited, taking her family to have grouper sandwiches and to the flea market. She made sure to save coupons for those grouper sandwiches in anticipation of her family’s arrival, which made them taste even better. In her final years, she enjoyed working puzzles and having fish sandwiches on Friday evenings. She did not fear death and had begun preparing for eternal rest long before her family ever knew. It provides them with great comfort to know that she was in control until the very end, where no doubt a glorious reunion with P.K., Len, Bob and many others was held. Graveside funeral services and burial for Elizabeth "Liz" Barbre will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 8, 2024 in White County Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Liz's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
