Edward Leo “Gus” Rapp
1939-2024

Edward Leo “Gus” Rapp, 85, of Dahlgren, IL passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.  He was born on June 9, 1939 in Belle Rive, IL to Joe and Angelina Rapp.  On August 4, 1970, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis, IL, he married Cleo (Anselment) Rapp, who survives.

Gus was a United States Army Veteran serving fourteen months overseas in Germany.  He was a member of the former American Legion Post in Dahlgren, and a long-time member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dahlgren.  Gus was a retired farmer who enjoyed gardening and visiting with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Cleo Rapp of Dahlgren; two brothers: Gilbert and Kenny Rapp, both of Belle Rive; two brothers-in-law: Albert T. (Pat) Anselment of Dahlgren and Ed (Cathy) Anselment of McLeansboro, IL; six sisters-in-law: Judy Rapp of Mt. Vernon, IL, Dolores Anselment of Fenton, MO, Marcella Heath of Elgin, IL, Rita (Kenny) Grubb of Dahlgren, Mary Rawls of Dahlgren, and Sharon (Steve) Rapp of Belle Rive.  Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews also survive.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws: Albert and Aurelia Anselment; his brother: Joe Rapp; four brothers-in-law: Anton, Paul, David and Bill Anselment; and one sister-in-law: Bernadine Spencer.

Funeral Mass for Edward Leo “Gus” Rapp will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Chapel of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dahlgren with Fr. Slawomir Ptak officiating.  Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a Recitation of the Rosary service beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Those attending the services are requested to dress comfortably and casually.  Interment will immediately follow the funeral mass at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery in Dahlgren with Military Funeral Honors conducted by McLeansboro American Legion Post #106.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital of St. Louis or to the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery Fund and will be accepted during the visitation and funeral mass or at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
