Charles Ray Garner, 84, of Ft. Myers, Florida, died Monday, March 11, 2024, at Solarbron Family-first Senior Living in Evansville, Indiana. He was born October 1, 1939, in White County, Illinois, the son of Charles C. and Vella (Harvey) Garner. He was married to Margaret Ann (Maurer) Garner, on February 7, 1960, and she preceded him in death on December 9, 2022.
Charles was a member of the First Methodist Church in Carmi. He enjoyed gardening and traveling to Ft. Myers, Florida, to where he and Margaret eventually moved.
Survivors include son Charles Michael (Gloria) Garner of Crossville, Illinois ; daughter Diane Kay (Bill) Grunwald of Asheville, North Carolina; brother Danny Garner and Mary Lou Garner of Crossville; sister Lou Ann Ayer of Smyrna, Tennessee; grandchildren Charles Daniel (Jillian) Garner, Chirstine (Derek) Wissell, Jacquie (Stephen) Keener; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Visitation and funeral are Friday, MARCH 22, 2024, at Cook Funeral Chapel, Carmi, Illinois. Visitation is 10 am followed by funeral at 12 noon. Burial is in Kuykendall Cemetery near Carmi, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Riley’s Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel, 101 Edgewood Lane, Carmi, Illinois 62821.
