Barbara Ann NielsonNorris City, IL

Barbara Ann Nielson, 89, of Norris City passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024 at Wabash Senior Living in Carmi, IL.  She was born in Chicago, IL on March 23, 1934 the daughter of Paul and Helen D. Barnes.  Barbara later moved to Addison, IL and attended Calumet High School.  She worked as a secretary at Clark Equipment before her marriage to Raymond Nielsen. She and Raymond retired to southern Illinois where she worshiped at Norris City United Methodist Church. Barbara was a fun, loving and caring individual. In her free time, she enjoyed writing letters to friends and family members, traveling and camping with the Illinois StarCraft Camper Club.

     Barbara is survived by her sister, Bonnie Thompson; her son, Gary (Laura Duran) Nielsen; nieces, Laurae Nielsen, Kristen Thompson; nephews, Steven Thompson, David (Bonnie) Thompson and their daughter Olivia; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Pedersen.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen Barnes, husband, Raymond C. Nielsen, son, Paul C. Nielsen, brothers-in-law, Tom Thompson and Christian Nielsen, and a sister-in-law, Joanne Nielsen.

     A private service will be held for Barbara Ann Nielsen, 89, of Norris City with burial in IOOF Cemetery in Norris City.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's memory to the Norris City United Methodist Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City or by mail to 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821. May she rest in peace.
