Winter Weather Advisory

Winter Weather Advisory

Well, if you thought yesterday’s mild temperatures were announcing spring had arrived, you are either a stranger to the Tri-State or extremely optimistic.

Long time residents of the Tri-State will not be surprised to know the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the entire Tri-State beginning at noon today.

The advisory will run through 3 am Saturday, covering portions of southwest Indiana, western Kentucky and Southern Illinois.

Precipitation will begin in southwest Illinois this afternoon and progress eastward into the tri-state this evening.

Local law enforcement agencies, including the Carmi City Police, White County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police pointed out motorists should plan on slippery road conditions, as the wintery mix of precipitation is expected to impact the afternoon and evening commute from school and work to home.  Bridges, elevated surfaces and untreated roadways will tend to freeze first. Even very small amounts of ice can produce very dangerous driving conditions.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Stay tuned to WROY/WRUL for weather updates throughout the day. We will also pass along any closings or delays we receive. Much of that information will be posted on our website at wrul.com
