The White County Sheriff’s Department received a report Wednesday night from James A. Carroll of 1244 Co. Rd. 800 E in Carmi, someone had damaged his mailbox. Carroll said sometime between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM that evening someone knocked the upper portion of his mailbox off of the tower base. The upper portion was lying in a ditch. He was able to reattach the upper portion of the mailbox to the base. Carroll also stated his neighbors to the north also appeared to have damage to their mailbox.
That same evening the White County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Donald M. Douthitt residence at 1250 County Road 800 E in reference to damage to his mailbox. Douthitt stated he had been made aware of the damage by his neighbor Larry Hite. He observed the damage and believed he could reattach the mailbox to the base. He was uncertain of the time of the incident but believed Hite had heard the mailbox being struck. The Deputy spoke by phone with Hite, who said he heard a vehicle traveling through the area and the sound of an impact around 6:10 PM. He did not see the vehicle but believed the vehicle traveled north on County Road 800 E.
Both incident reports were placed on file at the White County Sheriff’s Department.
