White County Sheriff’s Department investigates car found in Wabash River

At 7:52 am Saturday morning, White County 911 dispatch received a call about a car in the Wabash River.  The White County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene to find the vehicle resting on a log upside down in approximately 20 feet of water about one mile southwest of County Roads 300 North and 1600 East south of Route 141.

Posey County, Indiana dispatch was notified with a request for a dive team to investigate if a body was inside the vehicle, and Marrs Township and Perry County Township Fire and Water Rescue divers arrived at the scene at 11:15am.  Divers could not see in the vehicle due to murky water, but could not feel a body inside.

The divers assisted S & E Towing in hooking onto the car, and it was able to be recovered from the river.  Inside, it was discovered that a large concrete block was placed on the accelerator, and that the license plates had been removed.

The owner of the vehicle, Lecretia Turner of Eldorado, was notified.  She told deputies that her brother, Lilborn Turner of Galatia, had been driving the vehicle.  Turner when notified reported that he had parked the car Friday night at 9:30pm and was not aware that it had been stolen.

The Eldorado Police Department is also investigating the incident.
