Weekend Carmi PD & White County Sheriff Beat

Kelly Jones

Carmi Police arrested 37 year old Kelly Jones of Carmi Friday following a traffic stop.  Police Chief Carter observed Jones driving and knew her to be wanted on a White County Warrant for Burglary and Theft.  A subsequent search after the traffic stop allegedly revealed drug items resulting in additional charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Jones was processed and is being held pending $7,000 bond on the warrant and setting of a new bond for the fresh drug related charges.

26 year old Carmian Emilee Jo Duckworth is free on bond after she turned herself into authorities Friday evening.  Duckworth is facing a failure to appear charge out of Hamilton County worth $3,000.

White County Sheriff’s authorities responded to a 911 call Saturday evening placed by Sid Liles who reported to dispatch a single vehicle accident in front of his residence at 1405 County Road 900 East west of Carmi.  The report indicates a pickup driven by 37 year old James Eugene Omans of Carmi hit a utility pole and a Verizon cable box.  Deputy Scott Cantrell and White County EMS were sent to the scene with Sergeant Buttry arriving later to assist.  Omans reported he crossed the highway and his accelerator got stuck.  Ambulance personnel and sheriff’s authorities indicated in the report they suspected alcohol was a factor.  Running Oman’s driver information revealed his license had been revoked and he was unable to produce registration or insurance proof.  After being cuffed and transported to the White County Jail, Omans was given a breathalyzer which showed an alcohol concentration of .210, two and a half times the legal limit.  Omans  is currently out on bond, facing charges of Driving while License Revoked, and 2 counts of misdemeanor DUI.
