Carmi residents shouldn’t be surprised if someone knocks on their doors Saturday, Oct. 19.
Members of a volunteer group will be canvassing the community beginning about 10:30 a.m., inviting residents to attend one or all of three open houses planned for early next month in local schools.
The open houses are scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Nov. 4 at Washington Attendance Center, 5-8 p.m. Nov. 7 at Jefferson Attendance Center and 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 9 at Lincoln Attendance Center.
The events will give members of the public an opportunity to tour the schools—which range in age from about 55 years to 80 years—and learn about the challenges facing the Carmi-White County school district as it confronts the problems associated with the aging buildings.
Members of the schools’ staff will be present, along with others qualified to answer a wide range of questions about the district, the school buildings and the options facing the board of education.
