Valentine gets big support in Edwards County Tuesday

Voter turnout for the 2016 General Election saw massive turnout across the state, and Edwards County was no exception.  78.64% of registered voters cast a ballot in the election, which resulted in a big victory in the lone contested race.

States’ Attorney Mike Valentine running on the Democratic ticket defeated Republican Brian Shinkle for the Second Judicial Circuit seat being vacated by retiring Judge David Franklin.  Valentine received 68% of the vote to move behind the bench.

In national and statewide races, Edwards County was firmly red, with the GOP seeing massive wins.  83% of voters cast ballots for the Trump/Pence ticket, while Senator Mark Kirk was a clear winner over Tammy Duckworth in Edwards.  Incumbent Comptroller Leslie Munger also received a massive win over Susana Mendoza with a 77 to 17 percent win.
