Traffic Crash Ends With One Fatality
A single vehicle crash resulted in the death of a Fairfield man just before 1 Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Illinois State Police incident report, James R. Pike, 60, Fairfield, was driving a two axle truck on U.S. 45, near Springerton, when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing the truck to run off the road. The truck struck a ditch and then rolled over multiple times, ejecting Pike, who was not wearing a seatbelt from the truck.
White County Coroner Chris Marsh pronounced Pike dead at the scene. A passenger in the truck, Tyler E. Hutchinson, 25, also of Fairfield refused medical treatment at the scene. Hutchinson was cited for failure to wear a seatbelt, following the investigation of the crash.
The White County Sheriff’s Department, White County Coroner, White County Ambulance Service, Wayne County Ambulance Service and Rick’s Towing of Grayville assisted Illinois State Police at the scene.
