If you have ever dream of performing on a big stage, the Illinois & Du Quoin State Fair want to help make your dreams come true. Returning for a second year is the State Fairs Karaoke Contest. This statewide contest will give one lucky fairgoer the opportunity to be an opening act on the Grandstand stage at both the 2017 Illinois State Fair and 2017 Du Quoin State Fair.
This summer twelve (12) regional county fairs will host qualifying rounds of State Fairs Karaoke. The first and second place winners from the regional level contests will move on to the finale at the Illinois State Fair on Saturday, August 12th, with the overall winner performing two (2) songs on the Grandstand stage both in Springfield and Du Quoin. The dates for these Grandstand performances have yet to be announced, as they are subject to artist approval.
“This is a free contest with a big reward,” said State Fair Manager Kevin Gordon. “Thanks to the overwhelming support from the local communities, contestants and various fair organizers, we were able to expand this contest from 8 regional contests in 2016 to 12 events this year.”
In order to compete, you must be a solo act, you must be 18 years old, and it is highly recommended that each participant pre-register on the Illinois State Fair website (www.illinois.gov/statefair). Space is limited at each venue and once the host site’s slots are filled the registration will be closed. Complete contest rules can be found online. Registration begins on Monday, May 15 at noon CST.
