Statement from White County Supervisor of Assessments Office
We are in the process of finalizing our portion of the 2024 property tax cycle. Letters have been mailed on April 15, 2025, to property owners that reflect any changes that may have been made to their properties,
In all Illinois counties except for Cook County, the assessed values real property is to be assessed at one-third (1/3) of its fair cash value. Because of the surge in the real estate market for the years 2021-2022-2023, White County has had to apply an equalization factor of 1.1384 to the assessed values of properties other than commercial, industrial, farm, and minerals. A change due to the equalization factor does not mean that property tax bills will increase or decrease. Tax bills are determined by local taxing bodies when they request money each year to provide services to local citizens. If the amount requested by local taxing districts is not greater than the amount received in the previous year, then the total property taxes will not increase even if assessments increase.
We have been working this past year to make assessments more fair and equitable and will continue to do so. Also this year, we have posted all assessment changes on our county website: www.whitecounty-il.gov/supervisor-of-assessments.
