Smith Named to All South Girls Track Team

Carmi-White County High School freshman Jessica Smith has been named to the 2019 All-South girls’ track and field team by the Southern Illinois Coaches Association.

Smith, a sprinter, advanced to the Class 1A state meet after taking third place at the Fairfield sectional in the 200-meters with a time of 26.8 seconds.

State champion Du Quoin had a whopping 11 of the 26 selections, including all four relay teams.  Smith was one of seven picks from the Black Diamond Conference.  The other six were Hamilton County’s Maddie Karcher, Fairfield’s Jacklyn Simms, Johnston City’s Lauren Friess, Chester’s Josie Kattenbraker, and Christopher’s Shianne Dejear and Allyson Giles.

The All-South boys’ track team has not been released yet.
