Sleepy drivers cause I-64 accidents in White and Wayne Counties

Illinois State Police District 19 Troopers investigated two accidents on I-64 over the weekend.  Saturday night at 7:10 pm, 68 year old Nathan Jefferson of Shively, KY was travelling east when his motorcycle left the road way at mile marker 121 in White County on the left, entered the median, ramped a drainage gate, and then came to rest.  Jefferson told troopers that he had fallen asleep.  He was transported to an area hospital by the White County Ambulance Service.

Early Sunday morning, 38 year old Angela Dunn of Goreville was driving west on 64 at mile post 112 in Wayne County when she says she fell asleep, causing her vehicle to exit the roadway and travel approximately 100 feet through brush before striking a tree. A 15 year old female juvenile passenger was taken to a local hospital by the Wayne County Ambulance Service.  Dunn was cited for improper lane usage and driving on an expired license.
