Nearly four years ago, lives in Saline and Gallatin Counties were rocked as a result of the devastating Leap Day Tornado. Since then, the communities have rallied together to rebuild and restore without forgetting the damage done and most importantly, the lives lost.
To commemorate this tragic day, Southeastern Illinois College Student Government is hosting a memorial event to kick off a brick fundraising campaign to fund a tornado memorial and fountain project at SIC.
This event will be in the Harry L. Crisp Student Center Cafeteria on Feb. 24 at 12:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Patty Ferrell, mother of the youngest tornado victim, Jaylynn Ferrell, a 2011 SIC nursing graduate and Registered Nurse at Harrisburg Medical Center. SIC Concert Choir will perform and light refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend and will be able to purchase bricks beginning that day.
