The Shawneetown Fire Department has received notification from
the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal(OSFM) that the Department will receive $26,000 in
grant funds from the OSFM’s Small Equipment Grant Program. The grant will provide the
Shawneetown Fire Department with the funding to purchase updated, Self Contained Breathing
Apparatus or SCBA’s.
SCBA’s and Personal Protective Equipment must be replaced every few years to remain
compliant with National Fire Protective Association requirements. These requirements are
designed to keep firefighters safe. SCBA’s are a critical piece of equipment for both structure
fires and vehicle fires, these new SCBA’s will great benefit to the Department.
