Several Disputes Keep Carmi Police Officers Busy Monday Night And Tuesday Morning

A 32 year old Carmi man ended up in jail Monday night following what police describe as a verbal domestic situation with his girlfriend.  The event happened around 8pm Monday night in the front yard of an 8th Street home in the 600 block.  John Smith of a Sycamore Street Apartment now faces a resulting Disorderly Conduct charge.  The report indicates in addition to the fight with his girlfriend, Smith followed that up by yelling obscenities at a 16 year old girl and 13 year old boy down the Street.  Smith bonded out to $100 cash and $20 booking fee about 45 minutes after his arrest.

If they didn’t have an eviction notice before, there’s probably one coming.  Landlord and tenant issues turned ugly Monday night on East Robinson.  White County States Attorney Denton Aud now has the paperwork after police say 64 year old Douglas Walter Maker participated in a verbal argument with 36 year old Jeremy Heil and 35 year old Summer Richardson and eventually escalated to the point at which Maker was throwing items from the porch where the two reside and threatening to throw all of their belongings from the residence…an apartment which he owns.

And finally out of the Carmi Police reports, yesterday (Tuesday) morning, officers received a signed complaint from 58 year old Phillip E Burton against Burton’s son, 32 year old Phillip Scott Burton.  The elder Burton says his son came into his Schumaker Street home even after being given notice by Burton and even police officers not to.  By the time, law enforcement arrived on scene, Jr had already gone. And even as fast as the Carmi Police responded, he could’ve walked as Jr. Burton is also Sr Burton’s neighbor.  The complaint for Criminal Trespass to Residence has nonetheless been forwarded to the State’s Attorney’s office.
