State Sen. Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) issued the following statement in response to budget action taken May 23 at the Statehouse.
“The Democrats showed their true intentions that all they care about is increasing taxes. Instead of continuing our on-going good faith negotiations on a bi-partisan, balanced budget, they decided to go it alone, ramming through not only an unbalanced budget, but one that increases taxes on every working Illinoisan and doesn’t address our stack of unpaid bills that totals $14 billion and continues to grow.
“This unbalanced budget is not only a giant step backward for the state’s financial outlook, it’s also a step backward in crafting what must become a balanced budget that is agreed upon by both parties.
“Increasing taxes only makes us less competitive and will only aggravate the already historic out migration of Illinois.”
