School Board Approves Tax Levy

The board approved the tax levy against the property values of 2018. it will be extended in the summer of 2019 and they will spend the money during the 2019-20 school year beginning July 1st 2019. The levy is based on a projected Equalized Assessed Value of $144 million. The final projected tax rate of 3.94% is lower than the 4.05% of last year.

The district’s worker’s compensation insurance was renewed. It’s a renewal of last year’s coverage with The Zenith through Corkhill Insurance Agency in Elk Grove for a total premium of $69,458, which is an increase of 28% from expiring premiums. It’s in part due to the modifying of workers comp payrolls and the district’s loss history.

Superintendent Brad Lee said the provider of employee health insurance for the district will transfer from Egyptian Plus to Blue Cross/Blue Shield on March 1st of 2019.

In the superintendent’s report, Lee noted that Christmas vacation will run from December 24th through January 1st. Staff will return to school on January 2nd for a full day inservice and students will return on January 3rd.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has recognized four CWCHS students as Illinois State Scholars. They are Cole Blazier, Emily Brown, Kelsi Kessler and Troy Yang.

In other business, the board accepted leave of absence requests from Amber Ochs from December 10th to January 2nd and Miranda Grimm from November 26th to on or before January 8th.

Accepted the bids of two district vehicles declared surplus property from Johnson Truck Sales.

Accepted the bid to purchase two ¾ ton 8 to 10 passenger vehicles from Teffertiller Motors.

Accepted changes to 17 board policies and $2.950 in donations to Brownsville School.

The board went into closed session at 7:16 PM to discuss personnel and review of closed session minutes and audio tapes.
