Saline County Crash Results in One Fatality.
A crash in Saline County Sunday afternoon resulted in the death of a Harrisburg man.
According to the Illinois State Police Crash report, William W. Wasson, 31, died at a regional hospital after he was transported to an area hospital and later transferred by Air Evac to the regional hospital. Wasson died later in the evening following the crash that occurred just before 4 Sunday afternoon on Illinois Route 34, about a mile north of Harrisburg.
According to the preliminary investigation, Wasson was northbound, when for unknown reasons he left the roadway, overcorrecting and coming back onto the highway, before running off the roadway again, and striking an embankment. Wasson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Chevrolet pickup. Alcohol was considered a factor in the traffic crash.
State police were assisted by the Saline County sheriff’s Department, Harrisburg Police Department, Saline County and Deaconess Ambulance Services.
