Carmi Rotary Club meeting
Thursday, June 13, 2019
The Carmi Rotary club didn’t have an official speaker on Thursday, so President Patrick Haskell had an interesting plan for the members. One by one, the Rotarians passed the gavel and told their favorite “dad” story.
Each member stood and told a little about their father, with the overriding theme emerging that all of the Rotarians had hard-working, great dads.
The last person to speak was guest Todd Drone. His father Don passed him the gavel and told him to be careful what story he told. After pausing for a minute to think of the right one, Todd told the club that his mother wanted a child and his dad wanted a Corvette, and here he was.
Debbie Bunting and Malory Stendaback were on hand to accept a check from the Blackledge Foundation. Cindy Connelly presented the Brownsville Foundation a check for $2000.00.
The club briefly discussed the upcoming 4th of July event. The Rotarians will be selling fish sandwiches at the car show being held at the White County Fairgrounds. Cost for the sandwich, chips and a drink will be five dollars and the meals will be served from 11:00 until 1:00 on the 4th.
Kent Armstrong hit the trifecta at the day’s meeting, winning the 50/50 drawing, pulling the winning ball from the pot to claim the day’s cash prize and being named as the day’s phantom.
The Carmi Rotary club meets every Thursday at noon at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Carmi. Anyone wishing to learn more about this civic organization is welcome to attend a meeting or speak with any Carmi Rotarian.
