State Sen. Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) issued the following statement in response to Senate Democrats overriding Gov. Bruce Rauner’s Amendatory Veto of Senate Bill 1, education funding reform:
“It’s disappointing Senate Democrats chose to bailout Chicago Public Schools, giving that district millions in special deals, which comes at the detriment of schools and students across Illinois, especially downstate.
“Simply insisting Chicago Public Schools be treated like every other school district means twice as much new funding for every school in my 55th Senate District.
“This partisanship, driven by the Democrats’ obsessive political need to placate the City of Chicago, must be stopped. We are running out of time. I am hopeful that now Democrats have this override vote out of their system, they can work with us in good faith on a school funding plan that is fair to all school districts and brings true equity to the system. Schools and our students deserve nothing but the best from Springfield.”
