Rend Lake College hosts trifecta of summer sports camps

Summertime can be more than the off-season for local athletes. Rend Lake College is offering three Sports Camps this year in girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball and baseball though the Athletics and Community and Corporate Education divisions.

Up first this summer will be Girls’ Basketball Camp, from 1-4 p.m. Monday, June 5 – Wednesday, June 7 in Waugh Gymnasium. An instructor will provide each camper individual instruction on all phases of shooting, ball-handling, passing, one-on-one defense, and rebounding. Campers should wear gym shorts and a T-shirt, and socks with basketball shoes, and bring a towel. The camp costs $60 per student and is for those in grades 5-8.

The Boys’ Basketball Camp will also take place in the RLC Waugh Gymnasium. Times and dates are still to be determined. Anyone interested is asked to contact the Athletic Office for more information.

Youth between grades 3 and 12 will have a chance to learn tips and techniques from Tyler O’Daniel, RLC Head Baseball Coach, during Baseball Camp. The fundamentals of hitting, fielding, pitching, throwing, base running, and mental aspects of the game will all be covered. Campers should bring their own lunch and all gear with them, plus wear tennis shoes or rubber cleats. The camp will be held in the RLC Rec and costs $125 per student.

Boys grades 3-5 can attend Baseball Camp from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday, June 19 – Thursday, June 22. Grades 6-8 will meet at the same times Monday, June 26 – Thursday, June 29. Grades 9 – 12 round things out at the same times from Monday, July 10 to Thursday, July 13.
