The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake is experiencing a water outage at all of its facilities due to a waterline break at the Rend Lake Conservancy District Water Plant. All water-borne facilities at Rend Lake, such as restrooms and shower houses, have been closed due to the lack of water to operate the facilities.
These closures include all the restrooms and shower houses in the four Corps managed campgrounds including South Marcum, Gun Creek, North Sandusky, and South Sandusky. The campgrounds and South Sandusky Beach will remain open at the present time. Portable toilets and hand-washing stations will be placed at the open campgrounds. Water and sewer will not be available for the dump stations, full-hookup sites, or hydrants. All water needed to camp will have to be brought by the visitor. Starting the night of Thursday, May 17, 2018, all campers choosing to stay in the campgrounds will have their camping fees discounted by half for as long as the facilities are unavailable. All incoming reservations that choose not to camp will receive a full refund.
All areas, including South Sandusky Day Use/Beach and North Marcum Day Use, planned to open on Friday, May 18, 2018, will open as planned. As long as the water outage continues, these areas will also have no water hydrants and restrooms available. For those who have reservations for these shelters, they will receive half-price refund for the days that all the facilities are not available. If you choose to cancel your reservation for a shelter, you will receive a full refund.
There is a total burn ban in effect on all Rend Lake project lands due to the lack of water to fight fires. All outdoor fires, including campfires and grills, are not allowed until further notice.
Updated information on this project will be posted on the Rend Lake Project Office/Visitor Center Facebook page. For further information, contact the Rend Lake Project Office and Visitor Center at 618-724-2493.
