With the end of the legislative session less than a week away, members of the Illinois House of Representatives were given a schedule Thursday afternoon setting up the weekend.
Legislators will be in session beginning at 9 Friday morning, but then will be given time off to head home for Saturday with the return to Springfield set for 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon.
With the state in a dire financial situation and a budget passed by House Democrats Wednesday that was more than $7-billion out of wack, State Representative David Reis (R-Ste. Marie)suggested to Democrat leadership that members of the General Assembly should stay in Springfield. Reis said the bi-partisan working groups who have been working on real budget possibilities have been making progress and with time running out everyone should stay in the capital city and continue the job Illinois taxpayers expect them to do.
The suggestion was rejected.
